Day of the Taking of Granada
Every 2 January Granada recalls the handover of the city to the Catholic Monarchs in 1492 by waving the Royal Standard in the Royal Chapel and from the City Hall balcony.

Feast of Saint Cecilius
On the first Sunday of February Granada climbs to the Sacromonte to honour its patron saint, Saint Cecilius, with mass at the Abbey, dancing and free broad beans, salaíllas and cod.

On Corpus Thursday the monstrance leaves the Cathedral in the most solemn procession of the year; the day before, the Tarasca and the giants and big-heads parade through the centre.

Festivities of Our Lady of Sorrows (Virgen de las Angustias)
In September Granada honours its patron saint: a flower offering on the 15th in the Carrera de la Virgen and a large procession on the last Sunday of the month.

Mariana Pineda Day
Every 26 May Granada remembers Mariana Pineda, executed in 1831, with a civic procession from the Plaza del Carmen and flowers laid before her statue.

Corpus Fair
Granada's main festival: a week-long fair at the Almanjáyar fairground, from the lighting-up on Saturday to the fireworks the following Saturday.
