Cenes de la Vega celebrates on Saturday, October 24 a day to learn about the municipality's mining past. It is called «El Lejano Este, Tierra de Oro» and is open to all audiences. It is part of the tourist and cultural project «Las Huellas del Oro en Cenes de la Vega», which this year reaches its third edition.

A walk around the California Granadina mine

The programme starts at 9:00 with an interpretive walk around the area of the «California Granadina» mine, in the surroundings of the municipality. It is led by the researcher Luis García Pulido, a specialist in the gold mining of Granada. The starting point is the old tram stop. The route shows the traces that the search for and extraction of gold have left on the territory.

Mining village and antiques in the morning

From 11:00, the car park next to the Ayuntamiento hosts the recreation of a mining village, aimed above all at families. There will be a mechanical bull, archery, panning, entertainment shows and period setting. This area is open from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00, with a two-hour break at midday. In the same place, from 11:00 to 14:00, you can visit an exhibition of antiques about mining and gold extraction, present in Cenes de la Vega since Roman times and in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Residents' videos and a concert in the afternoon

From 19:00 to 19:30, the videos «Las Huellas del Oro» made by residents of the municipality are screened in the assembly hall of the Antiguas Escuelas, next to the Ayuntamiento. At 19:30, in the same space, the group Run na Mara performs, closing the day with music. The mayor, Montserrat Muñoz Sáez, says that the project works «to bring this historical heritage closer to residents and visitors, turning it into a resource for cultural dissemination and sustainable tourism development».
