The image of Nuestro Padre Jesús del Amor y la Entrega, popularly known as «El Manuel», will preside over the Official Vía Crucis of the brotherhoods and confraternities of Granada in 2027. This has been agreed by the Real Federación de Hermandades y Cofradías de Semana Santa de Granada, which links this choice to the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Hermandad de Penitencia de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Amor y la Entrega y María Santísima de la Concepción.
A carving from 1983
The image is the work of the Granada sculptor Miguel Zúñiga Navarro and was made in 1983. It depicts Jesus carrying the cross, the scene of the second station of the Vía Crucis. It was blessed on October 2, 1983 in the conventual church of the Purísima Concepción and went out in procession for the first time in Holy Week 1984, replacing the Cristo de las Eras, to whom the brotherhood had given worship in its early years.
The corporation, of Granada's Holy Thursday, was founded on Palm Sunday, April 3, 1977, and its statutes were approved on March 31, 1978. According to the Federación, it was one of the driving forces behind the recovery of the city's brotherhood life after a period of difficulties.
The patron saint of Pinos Puente
The Virgen de las Angustias, patron saint of Pinos Puente, will preside over the Vigilia de la Inmaculada on December 7, 2026. The image returned to its town last September 11 after a restoration of nearly five months in the Granada workshop of Julio Alcaraz, which included the consolidation of the wood and the recovery of the polychromy.
The carving, which shows the Virgin with the dead Christ in her lap, is placed in the circle of Torcuato Ruiz del Peral, in the 18th century. The brotherhood maintains as a study hypothesis its possible direct attribution to the sculptor, so the authorship remains open to research. The devotion has its center in the hermitage located over the bridge that crosses the Cubillas river, and the image is also venerated as Alcaldesa Perpetua.
