Spanish universities have taken a step forward in creating a unified digital model of the Ibero-American Supplement to the Higher Education Degree. The agreement was addressed at the XXV Plenary of the Ibero-American University Council (CUIB), held in Alicante on October 19, according to the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE).

Mobility and common degree

At the meeting, the delegations exchanged perspectives on the situation of higher education in the region and the challenges shared by Ibero-American university systems. In addition to the degree supplement, the Plenary advanced in defining the Action Plan to promote academic mobility in Ibero-America, which contemplates the relaunch of the Ibero-American Program for Academic Virtual Mobility and Exchange (PIMIVA). CRUE was represented by the president of its Sectoral Commission for Internationalization and Cooperation and rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Óscar García Suárez.

Diplomatic coordination

The association of rectors stresses that international mobility is a pillar of the university system and a tool for academic cooperation. In this sense, it notes the importance of maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and with its network of embassies and consulates to guarantee support for students abroad. The objective of the Plenary was to address matters of common interest, define shared priorities and strengthen the role of universities in the Ibero-American Knowledge Space. The conclusions may be transferred to the ministerial meetings on Higher Education and on Science, Technology and Innovation also held in Alicante, within the framework of the preparation of the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.
