The Real Cofradía Matriz de la Virgen de la Cabeza, of Andújar, has opened registration for the Peregrinación Jubilar Mariana, which between February 23 and 28, 2027 will bring 75 delegations to the Santuario along six routes. One of them, Ruta 4, starts in the province of Granada, and not just anywhere: according to tradition, the shepherd to whom the Virgen appeared in 1227 was from Colomera.
The Colomera route
It sets off on Tuesday, February 23, from Colomera, Benalúa de las Villas and Montillana, the three Granada towns with a filial cofradía of the Virgen in addition to the one in Granada city. That same day Noalejo joins; on the 24th, Campillo de Arenas, Torres and Jódar; on the 25th, Mancha Real, Carchelejo, Pegalajar and La Guardia; on the 26th, Jaén and Fuerte del Rey, and on the 27th, Lahiguera. That afternoon it meets in Andújar with the other routes, and in the early hours of Sunday the 28th they go up to the Santuario along the Camino Viejo.
How to sign up
Registration is done on the website of the Real Cofradía Matriz de Andújar until November 15, 2026, choosing the route and the town from which you set off: you can walk just one stretch and join wherever suits you best. The donation is 25 euros and includes accident insurance and the pilgrim's kit (wristband, estadal, booklet, guide, keyring, pen and bag). Transport, meals and accommodation are separate.
The pilgrimage is one of the major events of the Año Jubilar for the 800th anniversary of the Aparición de la Virgen de la Cabeza, which the Diócesis de Jaén celebrates from October 4, 2026 to December 8, 2027. After that will come the Centenario romería, on Sunday, April 25; the night of the Aparición, on August 11 and 12, and the Virgen's stay in the Catedral de Jaén, from September 25 to October 2.
