Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport hosted this Monday a partial aeronautical drill to check how the care rooms provided for in its Self-Protection Plan are activated in the event of a general emergency caused by an accident in zone A. The exercise was carried out by the Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA) and AENA.

What was rehearsed

The exercise focused on the activation of the Uninjured and Slightly Injured, Relatives and Crew rooms. The aim was to review the established procedures and check coordination between airport teams and the external organisations involved in an emergency of this type. The practice covered the opening and preparation of the spaces, the organisation of the care areas, communications between the different participants and the procedures for receiving and identifying relatives, as well as information management during the emergency.

How it unfolded

The drill began at 09:00 hours, with communication from the Airport Coordination Centre (CECOA) on the need to activate the emergency care rooms. The first to access the facilities were the passenger, user and customer care technicians (TAPUC), who took on coordination of the rooms together with officers from the Guardia Civil and the Policía Nacional. The TAPUC prepared and put the spaces into operation and then reported their operational status. Next, the person responsible for assistance to victims and their relatives (RAAV) joined, along with various external groups activated through 1-1-2, including the Andalusian Emergency Group (GREA) and Cruz Roja. In the Crew Room, the SOUTH handling ground assistance agent took on coordination and the reception of crew members.

Why it is done

The drill is part of the airport's 2026 exercise calendar. It also serves to review the room activation measures identified in the General Aeronautical Drill and to check actions and modifications planned for the implementation of version 6.0 of the Self-Protection Plan and procedure IPA-04, before their definitive incorporation. Internal airport teams took part in the exercise, including CECOA, the TAPUC, the TMA, the RAAV, the RPMA and the Plan director, as well as private security, the Guardia Civil, the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía, the 061 Health Emergency Centre, the GREA, 1-1-2, the ground assistance agent, the PECO and Cruz Roja.
