The Agencia de Emergencias de Andalucía has handled 579 incidents due to rain and storms in the community, 310 of them during Sunday. Granada adds 44, with three local plans activated and one injured in an accident in Almuñécar.
The storm and heavy rain episode affecting Andalucía has so far left 579 emergencies handled by the EMA 1-1-2 service, belonging to the Agencia de Emergencias de Andalucía (EMA). Of all of them, 310 were recorded during Sunday, according to the Junta de Andalucía.
In the province of Granada, 44 incidents have been counted, the fifth highest figure in the community, behind Almería (165), Málaga (135), Cádiz (125) and Sevilla (76), and ahead of Córdoba (27), Jaén (5) and Huelva (2).
Three active local plans
At 18:30 on Sunday, three local-level territorial emergency plans remained active in the province, within the 26 still in force across Andalucía: eleven in Almería, six in Cádiz, five in Málaga, three in Granada and one in Sevilla. These activations reinforce the coordination of municipal resources.
Among the incidents recorded in Granada is a person injured in a road departure on the A-7 as it passes through Almuñécar, one of the four injured that the storm has left in the community. The other three occurred in Bujalance (Córdoba), Los Barrios (Cádiz) and Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz).
Rainfall in the province
Data from the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet) place Motril-Puerto at 28.9 litres per square metre and Granada-Cartuja at 21 litres up to 17:00 on Sunday. The highest accumulated total of the day was recorded in Rincón de la Victoria (Málaga), with 63.2 litres.
Most of the warnings in the community have been related to flooding of homes, garages, basements and public roads, landslides, traffic difficulties and vehicles trapped by water. Since the start of the episode, 375 incidents have been handled for natural risks, 61 for anomalies in basic services, 42 rescues and saves, 35 traffic-related and 25 collapses or falling elements.
Warnings for Monday
Aemet maintains for Monday warnings for rain and storms in seven Andalusian provinces. In Granada, the yellow warnings will affect different areas mainly during the afternoon, while on the Granada coast they will begin during the morning. Huelva will be the only province without warnings.
The Junta keeps activated the Plan de Emergencias ante el Riesgo de Inundaciones en Andalucía (PERI), in emergency phase and operational situation 1.
What to do
The Agencia de Emergencias de Andalucía recommends avoiding unnecessary travel, checking road conditions before travelling and not crossing flooded areas, ramblas, channels or underpasses, neither on foot nor by vehicle. In case of flooding, avoid basements, garages and ground floors, seek shelter in elevated areas and do not attempt to recover vehicles or objects swept away by water. In any emergency, the phone number is 1-1-2, available 24 hours a day.
