The Colegio Oficial de Trabajo Social de Granada has awarded Mª Cruz Marín Reinón, social worker on the ERACIS+ Cuevas de Baza team, for an initiative that brings Roma culture and community work to the centre of social intervention in this disadvantaged area of the municipality.

What has been awarded

The project submitted is entitled «Descubre la cultura gitana: cultura, arte y tradición» and was presented through a video in the II edition of the Premios Iniciativas de Transformación Social of the Colegio Oficial de Trabajo Social de Granada, where it has been awarded. The audiovisual piece covers a community social work experience carried out in the Zona Desfavorecida Cuevas de Baza on the occasion of the International Roma Day. Its purpose was to promote social inclusion, intercultural coexistence and to give visibility to Roma culture.

Built with the community

According to the promoting team, the candidacy started from an idea: community social work consists not only of intervening on needs, but also of recognising the capacities, knowledge and leading role of the communities themselves. In this sense, the project submitted states that «it has not been an activity carried out for the community, but built with the community». The ERACIS+ Cuevas de Baza programme is co-financed by the Fondo Social Europeo Plus and the Consejería de Inclusión Social, Juventud, Familias e Igualdad de la Junta de Andalucía.

What these awards are for

The aim of these awards is to share experiences, ideas and practices that seek to transform social reality, give visibility to and strengthen social work and contribute to the defence of human rights. Anyone who wants to learn about the project can watch it in the initiative's video.
