The University of Granada has completed the restoration of the Patio de los Mármoles of the Hospital Real, a space declared a Site of Cultural Interest. The works lasted six months and involved an investment of 827,160 euros, with funding from the 2% Cultural programme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, which contributed 50%.
The presentation of the results of the works will take place in the courtyard itself. The event will feature the rector of the UGR, Pedro Mercado Pacheco, and Ricardo Hernández Soriano, from the Heritage area, who will explain the works carried out. The subsequent note also specifies the participation of the vice-rector for University Extension, Heritage and Institutional Relations, Marga Sánchez Romero.
The intervention was directed by the architect Sira Cabrera and covered 1,332 square metres, with the replacement of cement mortars with hydraulic lime mortars and the removal of incompatible materials from previous restorations. Traces of the fire that affected the building in the 16th century remain visible.
