The Archdiocese of Granada begins on Thursday, October 22 the third edition of the Course «El Órgano Litúrgico», free of charge and aimed at choir directors and people interested in the instrument. Prior registration is open until October 21.
The course 'The Liturgical Organ' organised by the Archdiocese of Granada is holding its third edition and starts on Thursday, October 22 with an opening lecture open to the general public. It will be given by the episcopal delegate for Liturgy of Granada, Pablo Castilla Domínguez, at 19:30 at the assembly hall of the Curia Metropolitana, in the plaza Alonso Cano.
Who it is for and what is taught
The course is free and is aimed at choir directors and people interested in the organ. To follow it, musical knowledge and access to this instrument are required. According to the course organisers, the aim is to learn about medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary organ repertoires and to place them in the appropriate liturgical seasons.
The organisers explain that the liturgical organ has particularities that differentiate it from the concert organ: it requires knowledge of liturgy to know at what moments it can be played and with what repertoire, as well as reading Gregorian chant scores in tetragram, accompanying melodies, transposing and improvising.
Until June and at several venues
The course runs until the month of June, with two in-person classes per month. It is taught by various professionals and experts in liturgy, repertoire, composition, harmony and score reading, among other aspects. The venues are the Curia Metropolitana, the Abadía del Sacromonte, the Centro de Magisterio 'La Inmaculada', the parish of San Juan Pablo II and the Cathedral of Granada. It is directed by Reynaldo Fernández Manzano, organist of the church of San Pedro y San Pablo de Granada and of the Centro de Documentación Musical de Andalucía.
How to register
You must register in advance and the deadline ends on October 21, one day before the opening lecture. Attendance at that lecture is free and does not require registration.
