The Baza City Council shows its support for the Cofradía del Stmo. Cristo de la Misericordia, María Stma. de la Soledad y Jesús Resucitado in the process of canonical coronation of its Marian titular, which has been set in motion at an event with municipal presence.
The Ayuntamiento de Baza has expressed its support for the Cofradía del Stmo. Cristo de la Misericordia, María Stma. de la Soledad y Jesús Resucitado in the process of canonical coronation of its Marian titular, María Santísima de la Soledad. The event that launched this process was attended by the mayor, Pedro J. Ramos, and the councillor for Culture, José Gabriel López, along with other members of the municipal corporation.
Municipal support for the cofradía
According to the Ayuntamiento, the local corporation offers the cofradía the support it needs on this path. The Consistorio considers that the coronation of the Marian titular should be a common goal for the municipality.
The mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, has stated that «the cofrade community is one of the unmistakable signs of identity of Baza and from the Ayuntamiento we have the obligation to help it, promote it and defend it». Ramos has added that for the government team it is a pleasure to do so and that they make the cofradía's initiative their own, placing themselves at its disposal.
What the cofradía is
The Cofradía del Stmo. Cristo de la Misericordia, María Stma. de la Soledad y Jesús Resucitado is a cofrade corporation of Baza. Its Marian titular, María Santísima de la Soledad, takes part in the city's Semana Santa alongside the rest of the brotherhoods and cofradías, according to the Ayuntamiento.
The Consistorio stresses that the image is «fervor imprescindible» in the Semana Santa bastetana and that its coronation should be a source of pride for all bastetanos.
Process initiated
The event held marks the start of the canonical coronation process. The Ayuntamiento has not detailed in its communication the planned schedule or the phases of the procedure.
