The VI Sustainability Fair of Granada opened its doors this Wednesday, October 14, at the Chamber of Commerce. On its first day, Green Footprint certificates were awarded to seventeen companies and institutions in the province for their good practices and their adherence to sustainability and climate change mitigation criteria.
What can be visited
Eight companies and seven institutions are showing their sustainability solutions at stands set up in the Chamber's hall, which will remain open until Thursday, October 15. The second day will focus on institutions and on the need to build local alliances to promote sustainability.
The certified companies
The certificates, audited by Cámara Certifica, attest to compliance with sustainability criteria and provide a guarantee in terms of image and reputation, according to the Chamber. The recognized entities are Emasagra, Hoteles Luna, Jumadi, Eider, Universidad de Granada, Hamma Al-Ándalus, Cetursa Sierra Nevada, PROMA Proyectos de ingeniería ambiental, Cívica Software, CITAI, Federación Provincial de Hostelería, Movviendo Tourism Group, Escuela de Arte, Restaurante Cantina de Diego, Hotel Casa 1800, Omawa and Cámara Granada.
The Canal Sur forum
The day included the III Canal Sur Sustainability Forum, in which companies such as Cosentino, Coca Cola, Lactalis and Selezziona Consultoría took part, moderated by Javier Bolaños, presenter of the Canal Sur program Cambio Climático. T-Systems Iberia and Innovasur also took part, together with the Centro de IA de Andalucía and Canal Sur Lab, to analyze the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in the field of sustainability.
Institutions call for communication
The participating institutions urged companies to incorporate sustainability into their corporate strategies and to establish communication plans to publicize their progress. The event included remarks by the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo; the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía government in Granada, Antonio Granados; the president of Cámara Granada, Gerardo Cuerva; the vice-president of the Diputación Provincial, Antonio Mancilla, and the director general of Canal Sur, Juan de Dios Mellado.
Cuerva stated that "the first thing companies must do is generate value" and warned that "if we are not competitive, we can fall into irrelevance." Carazo advocated "creating alliances between administrations, the business community and all citizens" and acknowledged the work of Emasagra in energy efficiency and digitalization. Granados argued that administrations and companies "are necessary allies" in the face of the environmental challenge, and Mancilla explained that the Diputación is working on a new supramunicipal waste collection and treatment service and another for water treatment.
