Alhendín celebrates this Saturday, October 24, the first Montevive Villa de Alhendín Folklore Festival. It will be at the Teatro Municipal, from 19.00 hours, and entry is free until full capacity. No prior registration or ticket purchase is needed: just go to the theatre until it fills up.
Music, poetry and dance
The festival offers a journey through tradition via music, poetry and dance. The centrepiece is «Lorca, el pulso sonoro de una ciudad», a show that revives the songs that Federico García Lorca collected in his 1933 lecture «Cómo canta una ciudad de noviembre a noviembre». The proposal blends the poet's words with live music and reinterprets the repertoires the author rescued from oblivion.
The dance group Sway will set movement to the music. Almirez will perform as guest, bringing the sounds of the Sacromonte and Granada folklore.
Almost 30 years of history
The event is organised by the Asociación Musical Montevive, which is approaching 30 years dedicated to the promotion and teaching of music. According to the association, this first festival is a step towards creating a stable space for popular traditions, with three goals: preserving cultural heritage, giving visibility to traditional artistic expressions and serving as a meeting point between groups from inside and outside the province.
The association maintains that traditional music and dance «are not museum pieces, but a living heritage that connects our past with future generations».
