The Castillo de La Calahorra has been distinguished as a Monumento Mágico de España 2026 by Pueblos Mágicos de España. The president of the Diputación de Granada, Francis Rodríguez, has received the distinction at the VI Encuentro Nacional de Pueblos Mágicos de España, which has been held in the Galician town of Padrón.
A recognition of the heritage of the comarca de Guadix
The award distinguishes the historical and heritage value of the castle, one of the most emblematic constructions in the province, according to the Diputación. The provincial institution links the prize to its work of recovery and conservation of assets of relevance to the territory.
Rodríguez has been accompanied by the vicepresidenta II and diputada de Gestión de Bienes Culturales, María Vera. The president has thanked for the distinction and has stressed the potential of the monument as a driver of tourism and economic activity in the comarca accitana and the Marquesado del Zenete.
The castle as a tourism driver
As Rodríguez has indicated, the recognition "reinforces the appeal of a territory of enormous landscape, cultural and historical richness" and favors the arrival of visitors. The president has encouraged visiting the castle and getting to know the comarca de Guadix and the whole of the province.
The president of the Ecosistema Mágico de España, Francisco J. Martín Marfil, has stated for his part that granting this distinction to the Diputación de Granada is "a pleasure" for the entity and has described the recognition as a driver of development and revitalization for the comarca de Guadix and the Marquesado.
