La Herradura beach hosted the penultimate round of the Granada Provincial Council's Provincial Fishing Circuit, in the sea-coast category.
La Herradura beach hosted the penultimate round of the Granada Provincial Council's Provincial Fishing Circuit, which brought together more than thirty participants from different parts of the province. The category was sea-coast, which consists of sea fishing by casting from the shore.
A day from sunset until midnight
The competition began at 19:15, coinciding with sunset. As the sun set, torches began to light up the fishing stations, and the day lasted until midnight.
Athletes from the clubs Pesca Alborán, Pesca de Dauro, Pesca Rincón de Gójar —the club with the highest number of entrants— and Club de Pesca Costa Tropical took part, with members from Almuñécar and La Herradura. The youngest participant was 13 years old.
Drawn sectors and two three-hour sessions
The competition took place in delimited and signposted sectors and fishing stations, assigned by draw. It consisted of two sessions of three hours of effective fishing each, with acoustic signals to indicate the start and end of each shift.
The circuit includes the categories of ladies, for those over 18; absolutes, also from 18 years old, and mixed youth, aimed at participants up to 18 years old. In each category, trophies were awarded to the top three finishers.
Third year in La Herradura
The Sports Councillor of Almuñécar Town Council, Luis Aragón, has highlighted that «La Herradura hosts this event for the third consecutive year. We have a privileged setting for shore fishing and these events also help to showcase our wealth and landscapes, bringing together athletes from different parts of the province». Aragón and the Granada delegate of the Andalusian Federation of Sports Fishing (FAPD), Francisco Hernández, were present at the event.
The La Herradura event is part of a circuit that has passed through Freila, at the Negratín reservoir; Huéscar; Loja; Arenas del Rey, at the los Bermejales reservoir; Salobreña and Colomera. The next event will be on 28 de noviembre in Motril.
